Tu is an English mass market design name established by Adams for Sainsbury’s. It is the sixth largest clothing retailer by volume and the third largest online retailer in the United Kingdom. How TU Clothing Founded
Adams created the Tu brand in 2004 for Sainsbury’s as a replacement for the Jeff & Co collection, which was designed by Jeff Banks. It first went on sale in 160 stores. Sainsbury’s collaborated with television fashion guru Gok Wan to create a new clothing line in 2011.
Sainsbury’s relaunched the Tu brand in 2013, focusing solely on clothing. As of 2021, the homewares collection will be rebranded as Habitat under the core “by Sainsbury’s” brand. Additionally, all uppercase letters were replaced with a capital “T” and a lowercase “u” in the logo to emphasize that the brand is pronounced “two” rather than “tea you.”
In 2015, Sainsbury’s launched a separate website called Tu.co.uk, tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk, to sell the entire product line to a much larger audience all over the country.
In 2018, Sainsbury’s began selling Tu clothing on the Argos website following its acquisition of Argos in 2016. As a result, the Tu brand gained access to a much broader range of household incomes and attracted a much larger customer base.
